Remember Mortimer Snerd? (Really sorry if you don't. You've missed a lot in life.) Well, imagine ol' Mort saying, as only ol' Mort could, “Iggernut I may be; stoopid I ain't!”
Couldn't begin to guess how many times our kids heard that in their growing-up years, but they came to understand that ignorance is simply never having been exposed to certain information (we all are ignorant about far more topics than we are informed about), while stupidity is the unwillingness, even the refusal, to learn information presented. They also understood that there is no shame in ignorance, whereas willful stoopididity is inexcusable.
Certain Grand Poobahs of the city of New Rochelle, New York, have publicly displayed gross stoopididity in grand-poobah style by ordering that the historic Gadsden Flag be removed from the city's military armory.
Not familiar with the Gadsden Flag? That's mere ignorance, Friend – nothing to be ashamed of because ignorance can be cured quickly and painlessly by information. Find the cure at: http://www.revolutionary-war-and-beyond.com/gadsden-flag.html
Now the Grand Poobahs of New Rochelle are being sued by veterans and other Americans afflicted with neither ignorance nor stupidity:

They should be sued. And they should lose. Big time! And they should be voted out of office at the first possible opportunity – not because of their ignorance of the historic, Revolutionary-War-and-beyond significance of the Gadsden Flag, but because of their heels-in-the-sand refusal to acknowledge their obstinate stupidity.
